About the Roundup

The APA roundup is back for 2022 and we could not be more thrilled! The event is APA's main fundraising event for the association and relies heavily on volunteer work to make it happen. We could not do it without you!

Since 2013, hundreds of packrafters have made new friends and paddled new rivers at APA Roundups in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. Roundup locations are chosen for their variety of accessible river sections, which allow both beginners and experts to find nearby outings that suit them.

Roundup fees for 2022 will be reduced for APA Members. Consider joining the APA!

What to Expect

Registration fees include four nights of camping, Saturday night communal meal, and all roundup activities organized by APA. Children five years old and younger attend for free.

Swift Water Rescue training will be available before the Roundup through Swiftwater Safety Institute, at additional cost (details below).

For 2022, we are going back to one of our favorite locations, the Hot Springs campground in beautiful Garden Valley, Idaho. Located across the road from a hot spring and the South Fork of the Payette, the location is ideal for runs on the North Fork, South Fork and Main Payette.

Your ticket fees cover four nights of camping - from Wednesday July 13 to Sunday July 17. The event officially starts in the morning of Thursday July 14. We will all need to checkout from the campground in the morning of Sunday, July 17.

Parking capacity is very limited at the campground (limited parking is the main reason why we can't allow more participants at the roundup at this location.)

We ask all participants to please make an effort to commute with others if possible. The Roundup participants' Facebook group is a good place to find people to carpool.

All vehicles are required to purchase an event parking pass, which you can do during the registration process. We will also allow a very limited number of trailers on site for an extra fee. Please consider tent-camping and carpooling instead if possible. All vehicles will be required to display the parking ticket on their dashboard.

Consider packing a couple $1 bills for your trip as many river access points in the area have a $3 daily parking fee that needs to be paid in cash.

APA is once again partnering with Swiftwater Safety Institute to offer packraft-specific Swiftwater Rescue Training in the days immediately prior to the Roundup. Please click here to download a full course description.

You can register for either course on the SSI website. A group campground at the roundup location has been reserved from July 10 to 13 for Swiftwater course participants and spaces can be paid for through the Roundup Registration form on Eventbrite.

Outings at the event are entirely volunteer-led. Paddlers can join different groups according to their ability level. Outings take place on sections of rivers with rapids up to class 3. We do our best to have volunteer-led trips for everyone, but please remember that we only have as many trips as the volunteers are willing to lead. Be kind to your trip leader :-) Outing groups will be organized at the event. Any packrafters wishing to run local sections that include rapids above class 3 can do so at their discretion outside of the APA sponsored event.

The event also includes a group meal, a keynote speaker (TBD), a fundraising raffle and auction and plenty of socializing opportunities with paddlers from all across the country.

Refunds will be available up to 30 days prior to the event. Eventbrite fees are not refundable.
